How Do You Know What Is Causing Your ED

It’s that dreaded moment. You’re in bed, things are hot and heavy, and you are all excited for what’s about to go down except…well that’s just it. Things are going down. Down. Not up, down.

Game over.

Whether this was the first time this has happened, or you’ve stopped counting, having erectile dysfunction is never fun. The question is what is why is this happening and how can you get it to stop happening?

How to Identify What’s Causing Your ED

ED is typically caused by one of two root causes. It’s either organic (caused by a medical concern – like a health condition or a side effect of a medication) or nonorganic (not caused by an underlying physical ailment but rather due to an emotional or mental concern).

Organic ED can be treated by a medical professional, a PCP, or otherwise depending on the underlying medical condition. However, as a sex therapist, I do help clients with organic ED to help them come as close as possible to enjoying the sexual life they had before.

Nonorganic ED, however, can be addressed without medication and sometimes as easily as a few sessions with a certified sex therapist.

Now, before you get ahead of yourself – a sex therapist is not a sex professional. It’s a therapist that specializes in areas of sex and relationships. A talking doctor, if you will. So, when we say that nonorganic ED can be addressed, let’s talk a bit more about how.

How Sex Therapy Can Fix Your ED

For those who are dealing with nonorganic ED, sex therapy is the best option available for quick, actionable support. Puns intended. All jokes aside, in a few sessions, we get to the heart of the issue of what may be causing your ED.

Here’s some fun facts: ED is quite common, even among young men – aged 20 and older. ED can be the result of watching too much porn and impacting how you view and experience sex; ED can be the result of low self-confidence; it can be the result of fear or concern after trauma, surgery, or baby; it can be the result of over-masturbation and so much more.

When you are dealing with nonorganic ED, sex therapy can help you address the root causes of your ED and create a path to move beyond the barriers to allow yourself to relax and be in the moment – thereby embracing great sex yet again.
